How to Create and Edit Music with Moises AI Studio

Generating Instruments

Let’s say you have vocals and an acoustic guitar and want to add drums and bass. Here’s how:

  • On the right side of your screen, click the sparks icon. Open the “Stem Generation” panel.
  • You’ll see options for Drums, Bass, Guitar, or Others. Pick a Preset (AI Match or a genre) for quick results, or use Custom to enter a written prompt or upload a reference audio for more control.
  • Click your chosen option. Moises AI Studio instantly generates the instrument track for you.
  • Listen to your track, mute or solo stems to focus on specific parts. Keep generating new stems until you find your favorite version.

Fine-Tuning a Stem

If you want to tweak just a part of a generated track, select the area you want to change in the waveform using your cursor. When you select it, a three-dot button appears in the right corner of your selection. Click it, and you’ll see:

  • Regenerate selection (Custom): Pick another preset or use the custom field.
  • Regenerate selection (Auto): Instantly generate a new version for that section.
  • Generate from selection: Create a whole new track for just the selected part.

Try out each option to see what works best. The new version appears below your original track, so you can compare and keep refining until it’s perfect.

Editing a Stem

Want to adjust when an instrument comes in? For example, if you want your drums to start later:

  • On your generated Drums track, find the three-dots icon next to the track name and click it.
  • Select Edit. In the Stem Editor, you have three options:
    • Silence: Mute a specific section.
    • Cut: Remove everything you don’t want.
    • Crop: Select an area to keep and delete the rest.

Zoom in or out for more detailed editing. When you’re finished, choose to Replace existing (overwrites the track) or Save as a copy (creates a new version in your project mixer).

Separating Stems

Need more control over your tracks? Separate them for individual editing:

  • Next to any stem’s name, click the three-dots icon and choose Separate stems.
  • Choose Auto-detect or Select stems. For example, with drums, you can separate Kick, Snare, Hi-Hat, Toms, Cymbals, etc.
  • The separated stems will appear in a folder under the original track.

You can also use this tool to split vocals and instruments from a combined track, making it easy to swap out parts later.

Converting voices to Voice Models

Transform your vocal recordings by converting their timbre to one of our studio‑quality AI Voice Models — ideal for creative exploration or polished production.

  • Studio‑quality, royalty‑free voices: Ready for release, no extra licensing needed.
  • Instant timbre and harmony testing: Preview models and pitch shifts in seconds.
  • Licensed for commercial use: Approved models for professional projects.

Here's a simple walkthrough for selecting a voice model, adjusting pitch, and processing your converted track:

  • Open Voice Conversion: On your vocal track, click the three‑dots next to the track name and select Convert Voice.
  • Browse models: Preview available voice models (e.g., Amy, Richard, Simone, Sammy Jones, Oliver).
  • Prepare your source: Use an isolated vocal track; if not isolated, toggle Isolate Vocals ON during conversion.
  • Select a model: Choose the voice model to apply to the selected vocal track.
  • Adjust pitch: Set pitch in semitone steps (e.g., +1 or -1) to match character or harmony.
  • Convert and organize: Click Convert. A new folder is created with your original vocal and the processed voice.
  • Repeat for variations: Generate versions with different models or pitch settings to compare and refine.
  • Build harmonies: Layer converted tracks with varied pitches and models to experiment with harmonies.
  • Post-Conversion Actions: Export individually in various formats.

Starting a project with a recorded track

Kickstart your project by recording a simple idea, then layer it with AI-generated stems.

Open your project

  • Start a new project. It will be empty—no tracks yet.

Set the metronome

  • Tempo: 122 BPM
  • Time signature: 4/4
  • Count-in: 2 bars (you can choose up to 8 counts)
  • Turn the metronome ON so you record in time.

Select your input source

  • Change from the default microphone to your audio interface.
  • Choose the correct channel (e.g., Channel 2).
  • Play a bit and confirm you see input levels.

Record your idea

  • Hit the red record button.
  • Wait for the count-in, then play your part.

Add AI stems

  • Use AI stem generation to add instruments (e.g., classic rock drums) on top of your recording.

Listen back

  • Toggle the metronome OFF to audition your track and stems cleanly.

Using Chords to Generate a New Stem

Adding chords gives the AI a musical roadmap, so your generated stems (like guitar, keys, or bass) land in key and feel more natural. Without chords, results can sound a little off.

How to use chords:

Add chords manually

  • Click in the chord lane and drag to create a chord on the timeline.
  • Set durations by bar or by beat; use what fits your groove.
  • Lay out your full progression before generating the stem.

Enable chords for generation

  • Open the Stem Generation panel and pick your instrument (e.g., Guitar).
  • In Settings, toggle “Use project chords” ON so the AI follows your progression.

Note: Chord guidance isn’t applied to drum generation.

Auto-detect from audio (optional)

  • In the chord area, click AI Detect.
  • The system detects chords, root key, time signature, and tempo from your track.
  • Double‑click any chord to edit or fix changes if something’s off.

Go granular (tight timing)

  • Need half‑beat precision? Change the metronome subdivision to 2×.
  • This adds finer grid snaps so you can place quick chord changes accurately.

Generate and compare

  • With chords set, generate your new stem and listen.
  • If needed, tweak chords or subdivisions and regenerate until it feels right.

Tip: Chords give you more control and musicality; use them as your blueprint to make new parts blend with your song.

Exporting AI Mixed Tracks

Ready to share your song or get feedback? Export your tracks with AI mixing:

  • Click the clock-like AI Mixing icon in the sidebar.
  • Make sure you have at least two unmuted tracks.
  • Choose your sample rate, format, and whether you want just the Mix or Mix & Stems.
  • Pick a musical style to guide the AI’s mixing choices.
  • Adjust presence, pan, and reverb for each track as needed.
  • Click Export AI Mix and save your mixed track to your chosen folder.

With Moises AI Studio, you’re in charge. AI helps you produce, mix, and master music anytime, anywhere—no barriers, just creativity.
